Two BHS Singers Earn Select Seats in National Honor Choir

Michelle Garcia, BHS '17 and Korina Kotsiopoulos, BHS '19, members of the Brockton High School Concert Choir, have been selected to perform in the 2017 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Honor Choir.

These very talented singers, along with approximately 4,200 other high school singers from across the United States, submitted audition recordings to ACDA in September. They were selected through a "blind audition process" where just 300 singers nationwide were chosen to participate in the 2017 ACDA National Honor Choir.

They will rehearse from Wednesday, March 8, to Saturday, March 11, at the Hilton Minneapolis Hotel in the Honor Choir, under the direction of renowned choral composer and conductor, Eric Whitacre. On Saturday, March 11, they perform in two culminating concerts at the Minneapolis Orchestra Hall, the highlight of the four-day-long 2017 ACDA National Conference: "A Life of Song."

Korina has previously participated in the Southeastern Massachusetts Junior District Chorus; Michelle has participated in the Southeastern Massachusetts Senior District Chorus, the Massachusetts All-State Chorus and the 2016 ACDA Eastern Division Honor Choir. This year, however, these young women will be taking their talents to the national level.

"It is indeed a tremendous accomplishment and a wonderful honor for these Brockton musicians to be chosen to participate in such a prestigious musical opportunity," said BHS Choral Director Matt Cunningham.

Congratulations to Korina and Michelle and to Mr. Cunningham!
